Modhan Featured on BBC Scotland's Travelling Folk with Bruce Macgregor!

Modhan have been featured on well-known BBC Scotland show 'Travelling Folk' with Bruce Macgregor. Modhan's track 'Nightmare on Mill Street' formed part of Bruce's show on 16th August and you can listen to it again here through the BBC Scotland radio player. You'd better hurry though as the podcast is only available for 6 more days! You'll hear Modhan at around about 1.38ish...

Modhan are very excited about this plug on BBC Scotland's flagship folk programme. We're delighted to be involved and will keep you informed of any other radio/media plugs that come our way. If you haven't already done so, don't forget to check out and 'like' our facebook page as well!

We will be posting details of our wee Autumn tour of Scotland (and beyond) up in the near future, so stay in touch. Thanks again for your support!

News, News, News...

We have been enjoying the best of the other home nations over the last couple of weeks with a couple of trips to Pembrokeshire and Oxford. Really big thanks to Mike and the rest of the staff at the Pentre Arms, Llangrannog, Pembrokeshire for the wonderful hospitality and we definitely hope to come back down next summer to play some gigs.

The Edinburgh based members of Modhan, that is Andy, Graham, Kay and Mark, are making the most of Graham being in the country by playing some tunes at the Greenmantle on Nicolson Street every second Thursday over the summer. Come and catch us this Thursday for a great pint and a raucous tune.

We are currently in the process of having a new website built which should be ready to launch sometime in September, this is very exciting as it will be our first professionally made website.

Remember if you are out enjoying the sun this Sunday, pop down to Princes St Gardens to catch Modhan on the Ross Bandstand between 1300 and 1400 as part of  A Scottish Fantasia 2012, see previous post for more details.

Thanks to Pitmedden Music Festival

Pitmedden Community Festival was a great success last night, in spite of the constant rain. Our music went down really well with the large crowd and a very positive review was written about the gig in the Press and Journal.

"...with the superb Edinburgh-based band Modhan headlining. Modhan have created a fascinating blend of traditional Scottish music married with splashes of jazz and funk. The result, as you can hear on their new album The Admirals Fireworks, is constantly surprising world music that charms and engages." (Press and Journal, p6, 23/06/2012, Roddy Phillips)

Thanks to the festival for asking us to play and thanks for everyone who came down for braving the cold and the rain.

Newspaper Article

There was a great article written about us in one of Aberdeenshire's local newpapers, getting a bit of publicity before the Pitmedden Community Music Festival, see previous post.

"Smooth basslines, jaunty fiddles and catchy acoustic guitar riffs mix with whistles, mandolins, bongos and drums for a unique sound hailing disparate musical traditions."

Farewell to Mr C. Higgins

As mentioned previously Modhan are playing a set on Friday night at the brilliant Knockengorroch World Ceilidh 2012 where we will also be welcoming back Graham on guitar for his first gig this year as he returns from touring around Australia and New Zealand with The String Contingent , expect a stonking set.

Unfortunately our mandolin player and multi instrumentalist Chris, above, played his last gig with us for a while as he has been drawn in by the bright lights of London and will be moving there very shortly. We suspect it will not be the last Modhan see of Chris and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Walk the Walk

After a brilliant fundraising concert for Casa Allainza on Thursday night where lots of money was raised for a great cause Modhan are now looking forward to playing at the Edinburgh Moonwalk, raising money to unite against breast cancer.

We will be playing some upbeat and grooving tunes to encourage the thousands of walkers as they go past between midnight and 2 o clock in the morning, somewhere near Holyrood Park Drive. Also our latest album "The Admiral's Fireworks" will be playing in the arrival tent once the walkers have finished and is currently being used as hold music for the Walk the Walk phone line. Remember the album can still be bought from our website or downloaded from many of your favourite local download sites.

Almost there....

Exciting news, we have now finished mixing our upcoming album "The Admiral's Fireworks"!  Huge thanks to Garry Boyle at The Depot for all the hard work he put into it. The mixes have now been sent to Stuart Hamilton at Castlesound Studios to master, we're absolutely delighted to be getting a chance to work with Stuart and we can't wait for the results.

We also had a very successful meeting with Glasgow artist John Felix who is doing the artwork for the album, check out his blog, http://john-thesheet.blogspot.com/ to see some of his previous work.

We are now looking at early February for having the finished product in our hands, will update when we have a confirmed date.
